Variety

This weekend I did a nice variety of workouts.

Saturday: I swam for the first time at my new gym. I swam 500 meters. Mostly free style, but I switched up towards then end with back stroke and breast stroke. I definitely need to work on my swimming if I ever want to do a tri. Or I could just do this 😉

Then I did some light biking to cool down. I spent the day hunting down good study spots in the city with friends. We didn’t find anywhere good. Boo.

Sunday: I knew I wanted to get in 3 more miles for the week, but I also really felt like doing a spinning class at 4 pm. So I did both! I went over to the gym around 3:15 and ran 3.25 miles in 30 minutes. Then I headed to spinning thinking I would be right on time. I guess the clock in the main part of the gym is different than the clock in the spinning room because the class had already started. Someone had stolen my bike! I hopped on a different one instead but I quickly found out the resistance on that bike didn’t work and I had to switch bikes. So I wasted the first 5-10 minutes of class by being late/ on a broken bike. But it was still a good class!

Now, my least favorite part of any day…studying 😦

Sweaty Six

I woke up right on time to get to the gym this morning. But somewhere between still lying down and getting out of bed I fell back to sleep. Oops! So I packed up my gym gear to bring to work so I could go on my way home.

I was kind of dragging as I left for the gym and told myself all I had to do was 3 miles. Well I was feeling ON today and before I knew it I had run 6.31 miles in 1 hour (including 3 minutes of cool down). I started at 6.0 and every 5 minutes I increased my speed by .1. I did this until I got to 6.8. Then I spent 12 minutes doing intervals of 6.0, 6.5, and 7.0 for various lengths of time ranging from 15 seconds to 1 minute. Then I cooled down with some walking.

I think I will easily be ready for Broad Street. It’s in over 4 months, and I think I could run it today. Maybe some speed work is in my future?

After I was really sweaty. I ran into the guy who signed me up for my trial 2 weeks, he asked if I had been swimming. Haha!

Time to study, then having a week night sleep over party with a friend!

I’m way behind on posting. But I have had some great runs recently! A few while I was in Chicago for work on the treadmill. An awesome 5 miler outside on Saturday. And a good 5 miler on the treadmill at the gym I’m looking to join tonight.

The Chicago treadmill runs were uneventful, but a good start to ramp up my training again. I signed up for the Broad Street run (10 miles) which is on May 1st. Plenty of time, but I still need to be running more than I have in the last month or so.

The run on Saturday was a blast! I mapped out 5 miles on mapmyrun.com before heading out, since my Garmin battery is still dead. I was going to go today during lunch to get it fixed but it was so cold out that I didn’t want to leave the office.

Around mile 3, I noticed some traffic cones and bright lights. I kept running and then suddenly this guy stopped me and asked me to go an alternate route because they were filming a movie. I was almost a movie star!

Tonight’s run was intended to be a 3 miler, but then it turned into 4, and then 5. I ended up doing 5.22 in 50 minutes. Not bad! The only downside was that I had to wait for a treadmill for a few minutes and the treadmills weren’t in the best condition. But, overall the gym is really nice, so I think I’ll end up joining it. The best part is it’s not even 2 blocks from my apartment!

Time to watch the bachelor (don’t judge)!

First City Run

This afternoon I did my first run through the city. My Garmin battery is dead so I don’t know how far I ran. I’ll have to get that fixed. But I ran for 31 minutes and then walked for 3 to cool down. It was really fun running through the city, but traffic lights were kind of annoying towards the end. For the first half of my run I was making every light but during the second half I kept missing them and I would have to stop for a few seconds. Annoying.

Now I’m off to Chicago for the week. So sad to be leaving my new place!

2:10 plank

My foot is really bugging me. After some googling I’ve decided to give myself a few days off running. Hopefully by Thursday I’ll be good to go because I think I’m banned from the gym after that, which will mean running outside for a few days until I join a new gym downtown.

So today I decided I would do an elliptical workout (less stress on the foot) and strength training. I did a butt kicking elliptical workout for 40 minutes, but then I started to freak out that I needed to get home and study. So I decided to bag the strength training and just hold plank for 2 minutes. I finally figured out how to take screen shots on my phone! And I ended up holding plank for 2:10 woo!

My goal is to hold it for three minutes. I probably can, it’s just intimidating.

Night!
